Neeru dances in her bedroom by herself dreaming of becoming a famous Bollywood actress. The problem? She lives in suburbia, far away from the lights, sounds and color of Bollywood. While her parents try to set her up with a ‘nice Indian boy’, Neeru’s dreams don’t allow her settle down for too long. What develops is a hilarious and touching film about taking risks and living your dream – no matter how crazy they are.
Bollywood Beckons was written by Agam Darshi over two and a half years ago. Agam teamed up with award winning director Sophie Ann Rooney to produce this 20-minute heart-felt film, about pursuing your dreams and taking risks. “It’s a story about an Indian girl living in Canada, but the theme is universal” says Rooney. Bollywood Beckons completed production in April 2008, and will be making the festival circuit over the next year. Agam is currently writing a feature based on this film, and is hoping to team up with Sophie again to reprise her role as Neeru Singh.
